Sinking Fund Clarification

Posted Date: 04/30/26 (12:15 PM)

Dear Families,

We want to take a moment to clarify information shared in a recent Tuscola Advertiser article regarding the upcoming sinking fund proposal.

While this proposal is legally classified as a new sinking fund, it is important to note that it does not increase taxes. Our district has been collecting a 1.10 mill sinking fund for the past 10 years, and that current fund is now expiring.

The proposal on the ballot would continue the same 1.10 mill rate—there is no additional taxation beyond what our community has been paying.

This proposal is considered “new” because the allowable uses of sinking fund dollars have been expanded under current law, which means it cannot legally be described as a simple renewal, even though the millage rate remains the same.

If approved, the sinking fund will allow the district to continue supporting building maintenance, safety improvements, and facility upgrades. If not approved, the district will be unable to collect additional sinking fund dollars once the current funds are exhausted.
