Activities
Opportunities for students at USA Elementary
are offered at every level.
We have an extensive Character Education
program. Each day is started with our Morning Assembly that incorporates music,
dance, readings and character themes of the month.
The USA Elementary Talent Show, held each
spring, is a highlight event for the students and the community. Sponsored by
Student Council, young talent is presented in our state of the art auditorium.
Field trips with all children are encouraged
to enrich the classroom curriculum. Some of our local trips include community
businesses, Midland Center for the Arts, Dow Gardens, Bay City State Park,
Crossroads Village, pumpkin farms, Project RED, apple orchards, State of
Michigan Capitol Building and Museum, theater productions, Delta College
Planetarium and the stone quarry.
The fourth grade classroom takes an annual
trip to the Upper Peninsula in May as part of their unit on Michigan. Stops
include the Tahaquehamen Falls, Soo Locks, Mackinaw Island and Hartwick Pines.
We take great pride in our Big Buddy/Little
Buddy program at USA Elementary. Each classroom is paired up with another
classroom. These classrooms meet weekly to learn together and also to promote
friendships.
Literacy Activities are promoted throughout
the year with monthly writing themes, a Young Authors writing program, and
writing activities within the classrooms. An annual Read-In is a highlight of
Reading Month in March. Volunteer readers visit the school to read with children
in an all-day reading extravaganza.
Other activities include: Placing flags on
the gravesites of our local Veterans, kindergarten graduation, Tuscola County
Spelling Bee, student council, student ambassadors, and student character teams
are just some of the ways that we strive to promote citizenship and leadership
opportunities within our school day.
